In her current works, Birgit Thalau focuses on the theme of impermanence by exploring the subjectivity and development of loss and renewal. In doing so, she emphasises the emotional power of jewellery and its particularity of harbouring feelings in its materiality. She favours inexpensive, spurned materials in order to emphasise symbolism over material value.
